Japan<\/strong><br>The family members, employer, school, or receiving organization in Japan usually submits this application.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Use the COE to apply for a visa at a Japanese embassy or consulate<\/strong><br>The COE is not a visa.<br>It is a document that simplifies the visa screening process overseas.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Enter Japan and receive a residence card<\/strong><br>After arriving in Japan, eligible applicants receive a <em>Residence Card<\/em> at the airport.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>This is why COE applications cannot be submitted from overseas\u2014because they must be processed within Japan before a visa can be issued abroad.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" nationals <strong>already in Japan<\/strong> who need to change their permitted activities.<br>Because the Status of Residence defines both the <em>activity<\/em> and the <em>period of stay<\/em>, you organization in Japan<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>An authorized representative specified by law<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Because most foreign nationals are overseas at this stage, the accepting organization usually files the application.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Change_of_Status_of_Residence\"><\/span><strong>Change of Status of Residence<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Must be submitted <strong>by the foreign national<\/strong> currently residing in Japan<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Must be submitted <strong>before the current period of stay expires<\/strong><br>(Except in limited special cases such as when landing permission was granted exceptionally)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3
